Michael Reich
Michael R. Reich is Taro Takemi Professor of International Health Policy and Chair of the Department of Population and International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He serves as Director of the Takemi Program in International Health, a mid-career research and training program on health policy. Prof. Reich received his B.A. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, M.A. in East Asian Studies, and Ph.D. in Political Science, all from Yale University. He completed post-doctoral research fellowships at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Business School, and has been on the Harvard faculty since 1983. His research interests are comparative public policy and political economy, with particular attention to health policy and pharmaceutical policy. Recent publications by Prof. Reich include: “The Global Drug Gap” (Science 287:1979-1981, 2000); “Public-Private Partnerships for Public Health” (Nature Medicine 6(6):617-620, 2000); “Oral Contraceptives and Women's Health in Japan,” Journal of the American Medical Association (282(2):2173-2177, 1999). His book, Toxic Politics: Responding to Chemical Disasters (Cornell University Press), received the Policy Studies Organization best book of the year award for 1991. He has also developed and published PolicyMaker: Computer-Assisted Political Analysis, a software program for applied political analysis.
