Although the term “reproductive health” has been used by scientists, practitioners, and consumer groups for some years, its widespread acceptance came in 1994 with the adoption by 178 countries of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), held in Cairo, Egypt. This document explains this interpretation.
